The award-winning Lynton and Lynmouth funicular Cliff Railway opened in 1890 and is the highest and the steepest totally water powered railway in the world! This historic funicular Cliff Railway is the UK’s only fully water powered railway and one of only three examples worldwide. The attraction holds the Green Tourism 'Gold' award for sustainable tourism as well as several heritage, tourism and transport awards. The Cliff Railway connects the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, provides stunning coastal views, the famous Cliff Top Café, and an all-weather attraction suitable for all ages. Seasonal daily opening, no booking required. Dogs and muddy walking boots welcome.

29.6.21 Huge thanks to Bob Shaddick, who joined us at our Biosphere Business Partner Showcase last week, to tell us all about the commitments the Cliff Railway have achieved so far and what's coming up soon! By presenting at this event, LLCR have achieved two commitments in the 'Awareness Raising' category! They have promoted and participated in an event run by the Biosphere Reserve and facilitated knowledge exchange and shared best practice amongst network members. Well done!
