Pupil Award Winners
During the Pledge for Nature Project there have been several children and young people at schools across the northern Devon Biosphere that have been doing some outstanding work for Nature recovery in there schools. In the final year of the project we really wanted to celebrate their efforts. The following winners of the Pupil awards were all nominated by either teachers or members of the community working with the school. Well done guys!
Nominated by Mr Parkin of South Molton Community Primary School
Lottie has been great with both taking a leading role with the eco-committee but also helping out with nature across the school. She is always keen to help with any nature project and really enjoys ensuring the birds have enough food in our wild areas. Well done Lottie!
Nominated by Mrs Hogan of Blue Coats Primary School.
Elsa from Bluecoat Primary School (Year 4) who both individually and as a family does beach cleans in North Devon regularly. She also is very aware of environmental issues and shows interest in many other areas especially her factual knowledge of animals. Excellent work Elsa!

James has led the pond renovation project in Appledore Primary school for over two years, and has also eagerly supported a wide range of other projects within the school reserve. He has been an excellent example of what qualities a good school micro reserve ranger needs - dedication, cheerfulness, an enquring mind and a genuine passion for the natural environment. Well done James!
Nominated by Mr Shawcross from West Buckland School
Juliette has been a member of our environment group (WEBS –West Buckland Environment and Biodiversity Society) for the duration of her time in the Sixth Form. This year she has been one of two environmental prefects who have taken a leading role in organising and running environmental initiative at the school. This has included giving assemblies on food waste, organising tree planting (of 320 trees) and our first ever second-hand clothes sale at school. She has also completed an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification –half an A-level) evaluating the alternatives to plastic food packaging – she is predicted an A* for the quality of her project. Congratulations Juilette!

Adam has been an active part of the eco club since it was founded. He has been proactive in implementing a crisp packet recycling scheme. Has assisted with sourcing, planning and maintaining a school orchard. He has independently built an owl box from scratch. He researched the most appropriate treatment for the wood which happened to be a bees wax based material which he then made up himself and painted the box with. He has taken part in multiple bird counts, plant and insect surveys. He recently took part in Exmoor's youth ranger scheme and has signed up to volunteer with them through the summer. He currently is part of the staff team planning the creation of a pond at Pilton community college. Awesome work Adam!
Nominated by Mrs Moy from Braunton Academy
Narah has engaged with all eco club activities at school, PlasticFree North Devon’s Ocean Explorer Programme, plus her changes to the canteen proposal slides . She has also featured in Ocean Explorer Programme Film!
Libby from PFND says: "I'd like to nominate Norah, who turned up to our beach clean with her Mum and has been an absolute pleasure to have on the programme. She has done extra work in her sketchbook and has just been a shining star. Norah has really excelled. "
Great work Norah!
