Blog Post
A summary of pledges and activities from February!
February brought storms and cold weather, yet we still saw lots of great action taking place for nature improvement. A wonderful group of students at Bideford College started to make bird boxes for the winners of our 2021 Nature Awards (announcement to come soon!) and the South West Lakes Trust got stuck into some conservation tasks with volunteers at Wistlandpound Reservoir on Exmoor!
This month we continued our Nature Recovery Plan webinar series, this time focussing on what Schools and Colleges can do! We had excellent presentations by Lucy Willans at Appledore School and Steve Whaley at Kingsley School in Bideford. If you'd like to watch the presentations, please visit our youtube channel.
This month saw lots of great pledges!
- Mike in Chulmleigh did a litter pick along 1km of Huntacott water
- The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust have signed our Nature Recovery Declaration
- Susan in Combe Martin has planted 1 ha of native woodland
- Sally in Highampton has planted 160 metres of hedge with native hedging grown from seed collected from their farm
- The community in Braunton will see around 20 new bird boxes for small birds, some in private gardens and ten on public land in the centre of Braunton
This month we had the fantastic opportunity to join Plastic Free North Devon and the wonderful students from Ilfracombe Academy. They helped us to replace some more failed trees in the Umber Catchment and there were smiles all round despite the rain!
What can your school or college do for nature recovery?
