Another busy month and more amazing pledges!
Another busy month!
October was full of activities!
Firstly, we visited Langs Wood with members of the Braunton Countryside Centre who had been awarded some funds from our Community Nature Recovery Challenge Fund to improve the area for nature. The views from the top of the site were amazing! Definitely looking forward to retuning again and seeing how they get on.
We also joined some members of Coastwise as they completed a rockpool survey at Westward Ho! It was great to talk to the group who spoke of how some species found in our rock pools are indicators of a changing climate. Such a fantastic group of citizen scientists!
We also held an in-person event at the Braunton Countryside Centre introducing local people to the Nature Recovery Plan. Mike Moser gave an excellent presentation on the 5 Action Plans. If you weren't able to attend, you can still view the zoom recorded version here.
Alongside all this action, we received some great pledges from individuals across the Biosphere!
- Students at the Park Community School are going to have a go at growing Devon Whitebeam tree from seed,
- Tim in West Yelland is busy wewilding a small woodland garden. So far, they've been rewarded with hedgehogs, newts and a whole host of other whildlife and flowers!
- Carly in Kings Nympton is creating a wildflower meadow
- Louise at the Exmoor Centre is busy installing bird boxes! Bird boxes were installed for robin, red start and tits, with more being added, including ones for Kestrel and Tawny Owl
- Jill in South Molton is creating a small wildflower meadow, to the enjoyment of wildlife and the surrounding community!
We received an extra 20 signatures for our Nature Recovery Declaration. This included the Park Community School, Torridge District Council, Braunton Parish Council, Gates Green Solutions, Chulmleigh parish Council, the North Devon Natural History Network, Barnstaple and District Local Group of the Devon Wildlife Trust and Article 13. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
